Ethnic Structure in Konya
Categories: Turkey - Ethnic, Turkey - Provinces
Summary of the political tendencies of the Kurds:
Among the native Kurds, support for DEM offshoots in Cihanbeyli and Kulu is roughly divided in half. In fact, support in Cihanbeyli exceeds half; it would not be surprising if it turns purple in the next general election. Kulu leans closer to the Conservative-Right.
The Yunak-Çeltik vicinity, on the other hand, can be characterized directly as a Conservative-Right electorate.
Importantly, the Kurds of Yunak-Çeltik belong to the Canbeg tribe, whereas those of Cihanbeyli-Kulu mostly belong to the Rişvan tribe.
There is a Center-Left tendency in Ereğli due to the presence of Alevis; in the center, however, it is mixed because of immigration.
According to current data:
-90.4% Turkish
-8.2% Kurdish
-1.4% Other
It is among the provinces with the highest registered population increase across Turkey, ranking at the top in its region. Citizens of Kurdish origin constitute the majority in two districts in its north, while Turks form the majority in all remaining districts.
